I would agree with that. That isn't the case for most things, but a lot of people are self taught on guitar and have you make a lot of bad habits that if you only play easy songs is fine, but if you want to do more advanced stuff, it will hurt you in the long run. The guitar isn't a difficult instrument, but it is pretty technical in a lot of ways.
