I find creole to be super confusing actually. Sometimes I hear it used similar to how we would say Métis, sometimes the latin settlers, sometimes mixed-race settler-Indigenous, and sometimes purely Indigenous or Afro-Caribbean. I almost never understand what someone means by it unless there are more context clues. Cajun, however, is very clear and specific.
