there was a software i used 15 years ago or so that was like jellyfin and plex called TVersity that managed transcoding, at the time they charged a bit of money so you could get the transcoding settings for every device on the market, and updates, etc.
it did all of this. Synology Video service, whatever it was called, also managed this perfectly.
And the DLNA worked. And the SMB was *fast* so vlc could browse huge folders.
jellyfin and plex are *slow*.
