Alabama is now the 2nd US state to grant legal status to DAOs, following Wyoming. Governor Kay Ivey signed the "Decentralized Autonomous Non-Member Non-Profit Association Act".
This law gives DAOs full corporate entity status, allowing them to own property, sue/be sued, and contract. Members and managers get limited liability. To qualify, DAOs need 100+ members and a common non-profit purpose (e.g., governing blockchain/smart contracts).
As a16z Crypto notes, "Decentralized governance is at the core of crypto's future." This law brings crucial certainty for decentralized communities to build and scale. West Virginia's similar bill is awaiting governor's signature.
