Growing up in the 80s, when WWII survivors were still alive and active, the easiest way to generate shock was to play with Nazi imagery. Because nazis are clearly bad, right? But they're not real, they were defeated.

Ignorant youth looking to provoke a reaction provided cover for very-much-real Nazis.

We had literal fistfights in the 90s to get those people out of the scene, and the better performers found other ways to generate shock.
