Part of the reason Democrats are so unhappy is that the Republicans spent 20 years doing a masterful job of redefining the middle ground. Every year they pushed more and more insane principles, forcing their primary slate to the far right, and the Democrats took the bait and tried to find “middle ground” candidates to fight them. The problem was the middle was now the middle *of the right wing* and never went back. Mamdani, AOC, and other leftists can help drive the middle back to the middle.
