Making safe films that don't really challenge you to think about their subject beyond their framework isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Nothing wrong with just having a good time, after all.
But Nolan films don't really have a perspective. Nolan doesn't have anything to say about dreams or the unconscious mind in Inception. It's just a big movie with some narratives being intercut in cool ways.
