NGU is great, but it's not guaranteed or even the biggest value proposition.
Doing as well as the SP500 in the worst time frame that you could pick is still a great baseline. I think most people here would be willing to give up a few percentage points for the sake of sovereignty. Those percentage points would have been taxed away or confiscated somehow anyway in the KYC'd SP500 shares.
It's very unrealistic to expect for a 2T market cap asset to just go up and to the right unbothered.
