What you describe sounds very very similar to what we have. SMTP, IMAP and POP3 are still open protocols but almost no one is running their own mail server. Mail is quite centralized with few big email providers.

Seeing who make decisions for Nostr, I have lost faith in it. Its all up to the people. Linus Torvalds still holds Linux sane (of couse with huge team of similarly minded people).

A lot of bad actors are incentivised to turning Bitcoin into Ethereum 2.0 and scam huge numbers of regular people.
Just look at the investments into spam, scams and grifts to use Bitcoin as database.
