Bitcoin’s money system is just pure math. The total amount will never go past 21 million coins because the reward for mining new blocks cuts in half every 210,000 blocks, or about every four years. Since you already know this schedule and the current block number, you can figure out the exact supply for any future date down to the very last decimal. There is no board of directors voting on it, no economic models trying to tweak it, and no emergencies that can stop it. It just keeps running automatically, block by block, exactly like it has since January 2009.
