This is a difficult moment for Bitcoin and above all, for the people who have lost their savings.

The failure of a wallet does not mean Bitcoin has failed. The reasons Bitcoin is important have not changed.

Traditional finance still lets people down through compliance rules, sanctions and third-party risks that can freeze, block or redirect funds.

Intermediaries can stop money reaching people even after it has been raised, leaving families stranded in crisis zones. These barriers remain real and ongoing.

It can still provide a vital alternative through direct wallet payments, financial access for the unbanked and a way to move money when the traditional system cannot reach those who need it.

Bitcoin remains an important lifeline, but the systems built around it must earn people’s trust through transparency, accountability and far stronger security.

Humanitarian crowdfunding has transformed the ability to raise money quickly during war, natural disasters and political crises. Moving those funds to the people they were raised for, however, often remains the greatest challenge.

Our latest article examines how banking restrictions, sanctions and compliance requirements can leave recipients dependent on intermediaries, creating delays, disputes and additional risks at the very moment support is most urgently needed.

It also looks at how Bitcoin based crowdfunding platforms are taking a different approach. Rather than replacing trust, they are redesigning. It combines direct payments with transparent verification models that allow donors to make informed decisions while giving recipients greater control over the funds raised in their name.

Technology alone cannot solve humanitarian fundraising. Verification, accountability and transparency remain essential. Open payment networks may offer a more resilient financial infrastructure for people living through conflict, repression and humanitarian emergencies.
