And it's interesting how much he's promoting the ridding of the filibuster to get his 'Save America' act passed.
He definitely feels a more immediate threat with midterms looming. But I think in the long run he also wants to preserve himself (as always) and his legacy. Thus he hints at a third term (which of course is unconstitutional) and talks about promoting Vance or Rubio to run to replace him.
