Gunny has been practicing search and learning the names of objects that I always have on my person recently. It is her favourite game. She knows hat, purse, and glasses, and I could probably teach her lighter too; we start with some encouragement by hiding treats around the house and releasing her to search, then when she’s good and focused I take the object, say something like “This is my _hat_” and let her sniff it, then we walk around, I set it down somewhere, we walk around more or do some training exercises, then I ask, “where is my _hat_?” I wait for her response. If her butt hits the floor immediately she knows where it is and she gets a fetch release. If she doesn’t, she gets the object name repeated and released for a search.
