I wanted to reply too, but well, you make very valid points. Every time I see something that amazes me in an old film, like the fourway telephone scene in When Harry Met Sally, I look up how they made it and I'm blown away by how much time and effort and planning they had to get the shot right. Rob Reiner needed 60 takes to pull it off. I don't think modern directors have that much time and luxury on their productions.
