I originally turned off "auto update" for apps on my phone, years ago:
1. To prevent updates when out and about, using up my precious little data allotment on my mobile data plan.
2. To see which apps are have a new version.
3. To see what changed in each app.
That last point over the past few years can now just be summed up as: "Bug fixes and performance improvements"... for nearly *everything*.
At least the first two points still stand.
