A lot of people I talk to think they're intelligent. Me too. I'm not saying we're right, but that's what we think - except for a few minutes now and then after we do something obviously dumb. So if someone offered me "artificial intelligence", I would treat it with some caution and skepticism.

But there must be people who don't feel intelligent enough - much as I don't feel athletic enough, or healthy enough. Right? Or does *everyone* think they're intelligent enough? That would be weird.

Here's my theory: if I didn't feel intelligent enough, "artificial intelligence" could sound very tempting! Like hair restoration therapy for someone embarrassed by their baldness, or platform shoes for someone who felt too short. A cure for an inadequacy.

Are there people who treat artificial intelligence that way?
