#WritersCoffeeClub May 22: How well would your current WIP work as a play?
Not at all. If I wanted to write a play, I'd write a play. I mean I HAVE a play or two half-written as subject matter for games and I know how. I've known how since high school and I can think back to some of that early work and recognize it as hilarious without having aged at all.
But when I write a play, I know I'm writing for spectacle. I'm writing it to flex the magic of the stage; the "how did they do that;" designing things at a technical level. I'm writing things like the way *Beauty and the Beast* uses costumed stage hands as part of the scenery and how *Cinderella* uses a transforming gown. I'm writing ways to draw attention to what you think should be invisible until you understand why it isn't. I'm using misdirection and timing and all manner of well-oiled moving parts to craft an experience you could not get anywhere else.
Plays are their own art form and need to be treated as such.
