Yeah, I used to live in town. It has other nefarious histories. It was featured on 60 Minutes decades ago as the heroin capitol. It fell into ruin when the factories closed. The frog bridge was part of a renaissance in the late 1990's.
If you visit, they have a street festival every third Thursday, May through September. Other points of interest are the Willimantic Brewery and a great number of Victorian Houses. I think Willimantic has the third most lived in Victorians in the country.
The brewery is an old converted federal post office. The food, beer and atmosphere are great. We like being seated in the bar.
