Even if you power a data centre on 100% renewables, that's an opportunity cost of renewable capacity that could have been fed to the grid instead. They provide hardly any jobs, no services to the local community, and no benefit to the local economy. They are not even nice to look at. There really is no good reason to approve a commercial data centre, ever.
