Devs (even experienced ones) came hoping for a wave of never ending popularity, grant money, for them to play with things like a new programming language or AI or whatever "the future" needs. Turns out infra is slow, expensive, and very complex to build, but also a bottomless pit of maintenance. Ideas are fractured and we have to build everything from scratch because nothing is ever finished or maintained.
It's not going to be pretty, and you're going to have to want to do it, for a very long time with little or no reward. I think some needed a motivation reality check, unfortunately at the expense of VC.
