If we run something like open-nic we would not need to resolve the entire internet. Just the .nostr domain. There would be no recursion to the wider internet. also we can just refuse anything that's not our TLD.

But open-nic has it own issues / politics. IMO it might be fun to sus out a way to offer it as a NIP (but im not sure how that would happen ATM). To me one of the biggest hurdles would be servers in enough locations and proper load balancing.

I have access to servers in the US and would not mind spinning up others in a few locations. But that's an issue for further down the road I guess.
