Exactly. If a non-expert really wants to make these claims I'll maybe mention something about how mathematicians mostly use real numbers and in those 0.99999... = 1 but there are alternative number systems and maybe they can tell me why they're using the one they're using and how it works (or maybe not as I'll probably get bored of hearing how complicated it is to patch over all the flaws that keep popping up).
