"content": "Pelicans by the Shore\n\nThis image shows a raft of white pelicans (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos). I recently learned that a group of pelicans resting in the water is called a raft. The photo isn't great—I struggled to get a good angle on the pelicans from the ferry I was on, and my camera at the time wasn't as good as the ones I use now for wildlife photography. Today, I wondered whether they were hunting or resting. White pelicans typically hunt in groups by herding fish towards the shore.
