Every January I write a “What will Bitcoin’s price do this year?” piece.
Eight months into 2026, this is how it has played out:
- January open: $88,000
- June low: $58,000
- Weeks stuck under $67,000
- $65,000 downside case played out
- $80,000 this week, first time since May
- A third below the October 2025 high
- Down on the year from the January open
What has aged well is that price is being driven by macro conditions, institutional flows and market structure rather than retail speculation.
The second half of 2026 could look very different from the first.
I’ll come back to this in December.

quotingBitcoin hasn’t changed, but the market around it has.

My annual NGU article looks at what that means for 2026, as structure and capital flows begin to dominate price discovery.
