News: Former DPP Central Executive Committee member Kuo Tsai-chin was sentenced
to 8.5 years in prison over an illegal slag burial scandal in Tainan,
yielding NT$2.16 billion in illicit gains.
KMT Tainan Councilor Tsai Yu-hui slammed the sentence as too lenient,
noting Kuo has emptied his bank accounts and faces other graft probes.
Tsai demanded the court fit Kuo with an electronic ankle monitor—citing past
precedents with opposition politicians—to prevent him from fleeing the
country.
My opinion: See? If you’re with the DPP, you get caught red-handed and still
get off scot-free—not a single day spent in a prison cell. But if you’re KMT
opposition, the system will nitpick every obscure legal loophole just to throw
the book at you, slap you with an absurdly bloated sentence, and force an
electronic shackle on your ankle before you're even officially convicted.
