my honest humble 2c: I've been using Linux for some 32 years or so (since 0.99p12), plus IRIX since 5.2, AIX since 3.2, SunOS since 4.1.3, AT&T System V since SVR2. There have been many excellent ideas and code and there have been some real crappy ideas and code in all those OSes. I never met more than a tiny fraction of their developers and cannot attest their honesty or authenticity. AI generated code lacks a human vision behind, and it is in a sense plagiarizing previous code - so it IS worse on nontechnical principles. On technical results, AI generated code is, a priori, neither better or worse. IIRC, CDE tools were largely implemented with code generators and they were a bloated mess 30 years ago. Sloppy generated code is not something new we owe to Claude and friends. Only automated plagiarism is.
