I have noticed that, upon the deaths of transcendent figures like William Pierce or Ali Khamenei, the controlled media sometimes give respect to the men they attacked, reviled, and lied about in life. Men who can be bought (like journalists) may overtly hate men who cannot be bought -- but they also have a deep-seated awe and respect for them.
