"democracy" as you're talking about it has always been a way of *removing power from the people*.
The only input on this system you get is a vote. And then because they let you vote, you are supposed to accept everything that happens after that because you are only allowed to make change in "the right way".
So "democracy" comes to mean "do not resist."
