Part of the reason that pseudo-intellectuals like Chris Nolan bother me so much is that I was raised in a subculture absolutely brimming with them.
I didn't grow up in "don't think, just feel evangelicalism". I grew up on the "intellectual" side of Christian conservatism, & that involves a whole lot of men constantly posturing, speaking profound-sounding inanities that I was taught to think were terribly deep & insightful. That left me very sour on shallow people being hailed as deep.
