Watched Slap Shot for the first time ever.
Which is surprising since, in Canada, this is considered a “must see” movie.
And this definitely represents a moment in time. Yes, even the homophobia. But also what hockey means in small towns, many which experience strong boom-bust cycles.
This movie was written by Nancy Dowd, who does a great job of accurately capturing hockey culture. A big reason for this is that her brother was a minor league hockey player during the 1970s.
