Sorry if I misunderstand, but yes, humans do that instinctively, as long as we are literate with the language in question. Words carry meaning, we read the words and we acquire information from them and then if we pay any mind to them, extrapolate some more.
The fact that other things can do that too was not the subject of discussion. Hell, plenty of cetaceans have their own languages, so it stands to reason that they would behave in a somewhat similar manner. Yet they weren't mentioned...
