By overthrowing Prime Minister Mosaddegh’s elected government, the U.S. and UK installed the Shah, whose 25-year authoritarian rule fueled the deep distrust that later empowered the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Decades of sanctions and interference since then have only deepened Iran’s economic instability — not its liberation.
