Meanwhile in the Netherlands, after ten years of planning a major slice of the pensions system is moving from defined benefits to defined contributions.
A major surplus in pension funds will allow pensions to continue to increase, bolstered by a shift in collective asset management (residual assets will now be transferred to the general fund on the death of pensioners).
But, in the long term this increases pensioners exposure to financial volatility, of course!
