I'm sorry JB, I'm still missing what your goal is when you say decorate. Do you mean that a reply is visually changed so that the npub being replied to notices it? Like it looks different in the UI? I'm imagining YouTube super chats where a reply attached to monetary value is visually highlighted. Of course you can then do other things with the same logic. Place it at the top of replies, ranked, etc. If that's what you're saying then that would be pretty cool.
It seems like handling zap failures is a separate concept but could probably be in or near the same logic for decoration. It would just become a standard reply instead of a zap. I think that would be better than the current situation where you just get a popup saying they don't have payment options setup. It would be cool for them to at least see that people are trying. For one, it would serve as an indication that something may not be right on their end. But it would also let them see people tried to show appreciation and maybe even motivate them to join in on that feature.
Of course all of this goes out the window if you go down the private payment route (I think?) but that's okay. I want those options too.
