Politics is like cricket: it has multiple forms and though they all look the same they play differently. Parliamentary politics is different to local government politics is different to the politics of the street is different to media politics. Farage is not the first, and will not be the last, high profile figure that finds success in one or two forms of the game is no guarantee of success in another.
Which isn't to say that it's safe to write him off yet, it isn't by a long chalk, there are games yet to be played.
Something has changed, to be sure, but whether this is Farage's Robespierre moment or the prelude to his Renaissance it would be unwise to predict. But it's a hopeful reminder that all things have their season.
