The printing press is introduced 50 years before Europeans discover the New World, and 80 years before the start of the Reformation. At this time, the Catholic Church is not under threat in Europe, and has nobody to realistically transmit propaganda to.
But this safe, successful church likes to save money. And the printing press allows for the quick and cheap production of books that have previously been hand-copied, i.e. expensive. They are necessary in every single church.
