I wasn't being challenged to form a perspective on something strange & complex. I wasn't being asked to engage with something that might change me or recontextualize my world: I wasn't even being asked to thoroughly enter the emotionality of the thing, to empathize deeply & resonate on a personal, human level with something nuanced or hard to comprehend.
