Maybe it’s because Pegah isn’t obligated to give anyone a daily report on what life is like in Iran. She has every right to choose what she shares, when she shares it, and how much she wants to say. And just because this is a “censorship-free zone” doesn’t mean everyone is required to talk about politics or explain their personal life.
I’ve also lost friends and family members in this war. I’ve struggled with panic attacks and anxiety for a long time, but I’ve never come here to talk about it. My work was as a mountain and nature guide for tourists who traveled to Iran to experience its mountains and natural landscapes. Since last year, after the attacks on my country, I’ve essentially been out of work.
Would constantly shouting about my grief and suffering actually solve anything? Probably not.
So Pegah has every right to make her own choice about what she wants to share. Some people cope by talking about what hurts them; others cope by focusing on something else and simply trying to keep going. Both deserve to be respected.
