No, life never was simple. It is one of those white lies to think that life is simple.
If life is harder nowadays it is because rich people do not pay their taxes and therefore you can't benefit from the privileges of sharing wealth to lift society.
If you want life to be more simple we have to pay taxes. The fact that no one wants to pay taxes will make your life incredibly difficult.
