Not true. I live near a (now closed) nuclear plant and we're electricity starved. There's a big movement for reopening/building a new plant here - preferably one that uses _all_ the energy content of the fuel instead of the standard 5%.
The small amount of waste those reactors produce can be stored on the reactor site and is safe after a few hundred years.
