So Orson assaulted Tess, and attacked his stepfather, neither of which his psychotherapist stepfather bothered to address directly. Instead he blamed the nutritionist for putting steroids in the homeopathic medicine. He also didn't mention the podcasts.
The (writer? director?) in the commentary after the show has made it clear that Orson is particularly modelled on himself, and he's gone on about Orson needing a male role model and the difficulties of being a stepfather, none of which felt much like my experiences as a stepfather.
The show, while critical of Silicon Valley culture, also seems to take its worldview at face value, including materialism reduced below mechanical materialism to stupidity. It also points out the bizarre hypermasculinity, but again seems to accept it ultimately, with repeated suggestions that lack of relationships with fathers is at the root of everything, thus prescribing masculinity as the cure for hypermasculinity.
