Well, OK fair. First it was the automobile. Once you could drive far away, you abandoned your neighbors for fairer friends elsewhere. (Or were forced to, because you couldn't afford real estate prices where your parents lived.) Then, it was the television. Why have friends at all, when you can have better parasocial relationships with the super cool people on TV! And *then* smartphones came along.

I'm not old enough to have seen the convenience of automobiles decimate local communities, though signs of what once was still remain. But I got to watch in real time as TV became ubiquitous, and everyone got lost in their phones. Frikkin travesty.
