the local milkman would trundle around in his cart* / truck with milk urns on the back... we'd race out with our tin billies to have fresh still warm milk ladled from the urns into the billies
The cream would rise to the top as the milk cooled
From cow to our gate was never more than an hour!
Us country folk were a little primitive
The baker didn't deliver and fruit came on the train once a week approx 800km
