About which free OSs are you talking in mobile? UBports? Sailfish?
Development of apps needs testing. And testing needs users. And for anyone starting any development, some amount of users are maby needed as well to motivate the effort.
Operating systems come with a huge networkeffect. I think opensource development will be thrown back years, when Goodle actually commits to their proposition.
