Bah, my earbuds stopped working on one side. Strangely I could still use the controls on that side, just the speaker had died. On inspection it had green on the casing, guessing a copper corrosion issue. I had had them a few years, so bought another pair from the same brand, but one step down in price.
Ugh, I regret doing that. No Noise Cancellation/Transparency toggle, and nowhere near as much bass as the old pair.
Maybe I should have just switched brands.
