Women are actually desperately meant to be around other women (usually their family), or alternately could work alongside their husband, farm-/homestead- style. But, yeah, my mom (born '44) talked of washing even sib's clothes in creek, though each kid only got 3 outfits til the 90's. Ha. Now everything we do revolves around stupid levels of consuming & of course tech.
