Blockchain Report on Nostr: Wanchain cross-chain bridge exploited, resulting in the theft of 515 million NIGHT ...
Wanchain cross-chain bridge exploited, resulting in the theft of 515 million NIGHT tokens and a significant price drop. Wanchain has disclosed that a vulnerability in its Cardano-BNB Chain cross-chain bridge allowed an attacker to exploit an ambiguity in Cardano-side contract serialization verification. The attacker utilized a legitimate signature for a small withdrawal to authorize a large withdrawal, absconding with approximately 515 million NIGHT tokens. At the time of the incident, the stolen assets were valued between $9 million and $10 million USD. Wanchain has confirmed that the exploit did not involve the MPC network, private key compromise, or the underlying Midnight network. A portion of the stolen funds has reportedly been exchanged and moved to centralized exchanges, causing the NIGHT token to decline by over 30% following the event.
