Many years ago an erstwhile colleague opined that the beginning of the end for democracy was when feelings became more important than evidence/facts...
Each year his view has been further vindicated & now Catherine De Vries & Sara Hobolt wiring on 'political entrepreneurs' have coined a phrase for it:
emocracy
So yes, I think we can say we are seeing (have already seen?) the transition from democracy to emocracy across the world - and its not been for the good!
