The August 1941 issue of Lev Gleason's Daredevil Comics included the only story ever written about the character "Pioneer". It was illustrated by someone named J. Gahr, and I love the way it looks. The style reminds me of German Expressionist woodcuts, but colored with bright primary colors. I especially like the thorny red tree in one panel (maybe inspired by a joshua tree?) and the panel showing Pioneer approaching the surprisingly perpectiveless car wreck.
