As a case study, India-Pakistan does not support a two-state solution . For centuries before the 19th century Zionists invasion, all creeds shared Palestine. If you want a "historical examination" for a one-state solution, then pre-invasion Palestine might be it.

The Zionists wanted to be the Master Race of those lands. Avraham Stern actually referred to Arabs as a slave race (with Jews as the master race). That's the problem. The behaviour of Israeli society indicates that a majority still hold similar attitudes.

Realistically, the best that we can hope for is to set up conditions so that whatever part of both populations can peacefully share the lands have an opportunity to work it out among themselves.
